EXPLORATORY APPROACH IN SELECTION FOR EMPLOYMENT – ISSUES AND PROBLEMS

Abstract

The focus of this paper is to expose the exploratory approach in selection for employment - issues and problems. Selecting high-calibre people is one of the most important duties that organizational management will ever be called to undertake. The main objectives of this paper are: to examine the role of personal management in the selection of employees, and to explore the ideal candidates for selection. Bureaucratic theory of Max Weber was used as a theoretical framework of analysis, while the method of data collection was secondary sources. Hence, simple historical and explanatory methods were used for data analysis. The paper found out that there are different selection methods employed by different organizations whether public or private. The peculiarities of the jobs determine the selection criteria. The paper, therefore, recommends among others that selection methods should be validated. A simple system is better than no system at all.
