Social harmony has remained a big issue in many societies and has been of great concern to humans, the present study aims to examine how inter-cultural competence influences the perception of national identity, the quality of interpersonal relationships, and interpersonal conflicts. A total number of 180 purposively selected sample of university undergraduate students participated in the study. They responded to a set of questionnaires that measured inter-cultural competence, national identity; inter personal relationships and interpersonal conflict. The data collected was analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of the study shows that there was a significant relationship between inter-cultural competence and perceived national identity. The study also found that Inter-cultural competence significantly influenced the quality of interpersonal relationships and finally, participants who were high on inter-cultural competence reported fewer interpersonal conflicts. All the stated hypotheses were found to be significant at .05% level of significance. The study discussed the need for people desiring to serve in important public positions to acquire training on intercultural competence.
